The FCA is charged with tackling financial crime and also regulating the Standard List of the Main market. I have written to it regarding a company once backed by David Beckham, Cellular Goods (CBX) where there appear massive possible issues on BOTH counts. If it fails to act on both matters it sends a signal that it is officially a complete joke and that on London’s financial markets anything goes. The letter is below:

You just could not make this up. Mike Edwards and his business partner Jon Bixby owned 31% of Cellular Goods (CBX) at the time of its 5p IPO. Their vehicle Durban Holdings paid just 0.1p for nearly all of its stock and as the shares were David Beckham/disgraced Daily Mail pumped they started sell. Indeed they sold all their shares. So what is it hiding? I suggest that its auditors may have flagged up a material uncertainty and that is what is being hidden. On its IPO it raised £18 million but agreed that – irrespective of what sales it achieved – it would hand £15 million of that to Mr David Beckham in return for his work as a brand ambassador. Today, less than two years after that IPO at 5p, the deal has had to be scrapped in order to persuade investors to back a bailout fundraise to stave off bankruptcy.

On 30 June 2021, Guild Esports (GILD) published its interim financial statements for the six months ended 31 March 2021 which showed cash and cash equivalents of £15.86 million. These interim financial statements were unaudited and unreviewed by their auditors. However, they did state that they had been prepared in accordance with International Accounting Standard No 34.
